In the otome game, a world of godless people was being menaced by Nightfly O'Note, a mysterious alien invader from a crimson world via the crimson barrier Scared. To counter the Nightfly O'Note's threat, the humans establish the LAG defense agency at the Ryūkyū Islands. The anti-Nightfly O'Note fighting unit Scared Rider valiantly stood against the threat, but was completely wiped out five times. And so, the sixth and latest unit, Scared Rider Xechs, was assembled from five young men. However, at nearly the same time that SRX was formed, the Nightfly O'Note invasion stopped suddenly. Without the enemy they were supposed to fight, the SRX members spend their restless days dealing with ordinary life. The SRX members establish the musical band Odd-l's to deal with their low spirits and restlessness. Meanwhile, a young woman is assigned to LAG as their instructor and commander. Haruka Hani is a second-year junior high school student who goes to a school called Hinomori Gakuen. A member of the school drama club, she has been working on the script for a play the club plans to put on at the upcoming school festival. She's been having trouble finishing it, and her childhood friend Tamaki Teijou has been urging her to hurry up. All in all, she seems to be enjoying her life. From time to time, monsters called Zaiju (Beasts of Sin) appear and attack Hinomori, the town where Haruka lives. But the Heart Princesses are there to fight the monsters. Haruka looks up to these princesses who protect the people of Hinomori from the Zaiju, wishing that she too could be a princess someday. Then one day, when she is working on the script at home, a mysterious cat named Jin comes to her and says, "You seem to have the right qualities to be a princess. What do you think? Would you become a princess?" Note: The first episode of the anime was unfinished at airing time. It aired within an hour-long block, with the first 22 minutes being animation and the rest of the block consisting of documentary of the anime's creation and an apology from director Takashi Murakami. The complete version of the first episode was released in September of 2017. The following episodes also aired in hour-long blocks with their respective production documentaries.

The cyborgs themselves have been freed from their duty of protecting humanity ever since the establishment of the UN Guardian troops, and they now live quiet lives of peace.

The main characters are a pilot, Mizuru Mido, and her assistant, Fuu Sagami, who use a mecha made out of an enemy's remains. Gao Mikado, a 6th year student of the Aibo Academy Elementary Division, is partnered with Dragon of the Sun, Bal Dragon, a monster born from a mysterious egg. To earn the coveted title as the strongest fighter in the world, Gao and Bal team up to challenge other fighters in the "World Buddy Cup". The two will have to battle others in a card game called Buddyfight, which allows monsters to fight alongside humans as buddies. Their rivals include ex-Buddy Police Tasuku Ryuenji, and the self-proclaimed strongest combination, Gaito Kurouzu and his buddy monster Black Death Dragon, Abygale.

The boy Yūto encounters the space dog Wanda, and the pair use a camera-like device and key items to capture Bugmin. Promin themselves are able to do things like "accelerate objects," "spew fire," or "create objects," through an ability known as "Kamiwaza" (miracle), and are able to fend off Bugmin with it.
